Genesis 18:22-33; Exodus 32:7-14

I. What’s intercession? 

a)    Praying for others.

b)    Praying guided by the Holy Spirit. Romans 8:26,27

c)     Responding to a situation. Ex: 10/40 Window, Tohoku area, Philippines, etc.

d)    Standing in the gap.

–       Between God and man. Genesis 18:17-23

–       Between God and a city or a nation. Exodus 32:7-14; 1 Samuel 7:5

–       Between Satan and man (or a church, city, nation). Ephesians 6:12; 2 Corinthians 4:3-4.

e)    A costly ministry and largely neglected. Isaiah 59:16; 63:5; Ezekiel 22:30

Why? Let’s check some of many reasons: unbelief; demands resignation; requires being a bridge; lack of discipline and time or laziness; disobedience, selfishness.

Put intercession as a priority and not as an emergency”.

f)     It’s a secret ministry.

II.        How shall I become an intercessor?

a)    Desire to be an intercessor and begin today (so, why not now!). Nehemiah 1:15

b)    Confess and repent for no interceding. 1 Samuel 7:5; Psalm 24:3,4

c)     Let the Holy Spirit guide you. Ephesians 5:18

d)    Discipline yourself. 1 Thessalonians 5:17

III.      Results of intercession

a)     For God: moves his hand. Exodus 32:12; Jeremiah 18:8

b)     For others (those to whom we pray for): it’s the most effective way to win the souls.

c)      For us: it’s a way to know God deeply.

–       Makes us God’s friends. Amos 3:7

–       Makes us authentic servants.

Every man of God in the Bible was an intercessor.

IV.       For whom should I intercede?

a)     Authorities. 1 Timothy 2:1,2

b)     Christian leaders (pastors, missionaries …). 2 Thessalonians 3:1; Ephesians 6:18,19; Colossians 4:3

c)      Church, non-Christians, new converts. John 17:9; Galatians 4:19; Ephesians 3:14-19

d)     Your family, neighbors, etc. 1 Timothy 5:8;

e)      Cities and nations. Psalm 2:8; 24:1; Jeremiah 29:7;

f)      Enemies (those who displease you). Matthew 5:44

g)     Nations, especially those without and/or with few Christians. Psalm 2:8;24:1

h)     Our beloved in persecution situations (10-40 Window’s nations). 1 Corinthians 12.26; Galatians 6:2; Hebrews 13:3

i)       Sects, specific groups (homosexuals, atheists…)

“Intercession expands our discernment about God’s heart”.

Note: Take your Bible with you whenever you go to intercede for God can share a word with you.
